5 Prayers for Veterans Day

Observed every year on November 11, Veterans Day is a time when we honor those who currently and previously served in the United States Armed Forces.

There are many ways we honor our veterans. As Christians, we can show our gratitude for these men and women by offering prayers for Veterans Day. Whether it’s during Mass or throughout the day, these prayers bring comfort to veterans and their families.

Here are five short prayers for Veterans Day for your intentions or to share with your faith community.

A Prayer for Veterans Day

Lord God, Almighty Father,
creator of mankind and author of peace,
as we are ever mindful of the cost paid for the liberty we possess,
we ask you to bless the members of our armed forces.
Give them courage, hope and strength.
May they ever experience your firm support, gentle love and compassionate healing.
Be their power and protector,
leading them from darkness to light.
To you be all glory, honor and praise, now and forever. Amen.

Prayer for Homeless Veterans

Holy Father,
Please bring hope to veterans who are homeless.
Give them the strength to reach out to family, friends and groups
that will provide support and resources.
May all those they encounter greet them
with love and compassion.
Guide our veterans as they search for a home
and grow closer to you. Amen.

Prayer for Veterans and Their Mental Health

Dear God,
Comfort veterans who struggle with mental health
after experiencing combat, stress and loss.
Lead them to therapists, coaches and aids
who will provide for their needs.
Help us to reach out to them
so they experience the love and care of their community.
May they always feel your presence
in their journey of recovery and healing. Amen.

Prayer for Veterans Transitioning to Civilian Life

Heavenly Father,
We are thankful for every veteran,
especially those who return home to their families.
As they return home to civilian life,
give them strength, wisdom and courage
as they navigate new responsibilities.
Bring patience and grace to their loved ones
as they support them in this new chapter of life.
May our veterans draw closer to you in this time of transition. Amen.

Prayer of Gratitude for Veterans

Gracious God,
We thank you for those who have sacrificed their lives
for their country and fellow Americans.
We are grateful for their service
that protects us and contributes to the peace
of our nation.
May their courage and strength inspire our leaders
to make peaceful decisions to protect them while in service.
And may our veterans always feel supported and loved
whether in service or returning home. Amen.

Thank you veterans for your service to America and the sacrifices you make to protect our country. May you feel honored, appreciated and loved today and for the days to come.
